Is Peak Oil A Myth? Is Oil a Renewable Energy? by Harry Chattaway
Wikipedia defines renewable energy as "energy generated from natural resources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, and geothermal heat, which are renewable (naturally replenished)".
Wiktionary defines is as "energy that can be replenished at the same rate as it is used".
Is it possible that oil itself is a renewable energy? All it takes is pressure, heat and time, essentially oil comes from dead organic material - so why isn't it possible for us to manufacture oil?
Well perhaps it is, what if we discovered a way to produce oil and you could recycle all the dead animal carcasses that are left over from being butchered, and we produce oil from them - is that possible?
The thing is that there have been mammals/animals dying for millions of years, so surely there will be energy enough in those to create more oil - plus because of the sun's rays, the amount of energy stored on Earth increases, it doesn't stay the same. Think about it, the sun rays bear down and heat the Earth and help the plants grow - that energy is stored on Earth and we can re-use it in a cycle, based on the Law of Conservation of Energy.
Peak oil is the point at which the maximum rate of oil extraction is hit, after which it declines. It takes into account potential future discoveries. But one caveat is that it doesn't appear to take into account technological improvements that might aid discoveries and also technology that helps drill for oil in places we previously thought impossible.
One thing is for sure, cars are here to stay and our reliance on oil is a big one, we either need to come up with a solution for the oil problem or embrace other more easily renewable energy sources.
