Trundle Mattress - Get This Wrong and It Will Irritate You Forever by Miranda Xavier
Choosing furniture should be fun, but sometimes there seems to be just one too many decisions required. When buying a trundle bed the last thing you choose is your mattress, and by the time you get to this you are understandably exhausted. However, do not give up; the mattress is just as important a decision as the bed. Let me explain why.
Firstly, the whole point of a trundle is that it trundles under the standard bed or daybed and it there when you need it to augment your sleeping capacity. The designers have mostly tried to make the trundle look like a part of the bed frame, so it tends to fit snugly. This is great for design, but it means that if you have the wrong trundle mattress you may find that you trundle no longer fits in its allocated space. Yes, of course you can force your trundle and mattress into the space, but doing this regularly will destroy your mattress.
Secondly, when the trundle bed first came onto the shop floor it was a clever idea, but not particularly advanced. The early trundle beds were a bit like sleeping on the floor inside a drawer; fine for kids, but not necessarily the best option for adults. Hence the pop up trundle was born.
The main factor to the pop up trundle was that it was possible to raise the trundle bed to the height of a standard bed. If you ever used the mechanism of the early pop up trundles you will probably discovered that they either flew uncontrollably up or they jammed and had to wrenched up. But these early teething issues are pretty much a thing of the past now.
As the pop up trundle grew in popularity there was a new idea. If you put the trundle next to the standard bed; you could make a double bed. Perfect. Except, often people had bought different mattresses for the trundle and the standard bed. This was usually done to save a bit of money, they would put the more expensive mattress on the bed and the cheaper less frequently used mattress on the trundle. Fine until you put the two beds together and found that one was an inch higher than the other.
So the trundle bed mattress became and important issue. If you were ever going to use your trundle bed as an extension of the standard bed there was no skimping on the mattress; you simply had to buy two mattresses the same.
So when you choose your trundle mattress it is important to buy the mattress which is recommended by the manufacturer of the bed. If you follow their guidelines you will find that the mattress will fit under the bed and it will fit to form a perfect double.
